More Companies Suspected of Possible Privacy Violations In this issue, we’ll introduce you to two new hub pages that contain information on companies under investigation for potential online privacy violations. Our Video Privacy Protection Act page examines websites, platforms and services that may be sharing users’ watch histories without consent – and this week, we’ll touch on an investigation into the Roku Channel. Next up, our travel wiretapping page will discuss possible privacy issues affecting websites like Hopper.com, MargaritavilleResorts.com, MargaritavilleAtSea.com and Agoda.com. Look just below for details on these new pages. Also below, you’ll find an investigation into certain Mazda CX-5, CX-9 and 6 vehicles over reports of coolant leaks, as well as a story on a lawsuit that claims the Hershey Company misleadingly advertises Lily’s chocolate as “Stevia Sweetened.” Keep reading for the latest in class action news and settlements. - Ty Armstrong, Writer/Community Manager | We’ve recently consolidated our list of websites, platforms and services suspected of potentially violating consumers’ video privacy rights into a single page. The latest to join that list? The Roku Channel. Attorneys have reason to believe that the Roku Channel may be sharing certain consumers’ watch histories with Facebook without permission – and they’re now gathering affected accountholders. If you have a Facebook account and a Roku account and streamed videos on the Roku Channel within the past two years, you may be able to join others taking action via mass arbitration. Learn more about Roku and other companies suspected of possible privacy violations over on this page. | Drivers Report Coolant Leaks in Certain Mazda Vehicles Numerous complaints have been posted online stating that some Mazda CX-5, CX-9 and 6 vehicles have been leaking coolant, which can lead to costly repairs including engine replacement. Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are now investigating whether a defect is to blame, and if so, whether a class action lawsuit can be filed. A successful lawsuit could help drivers recover money for repair costs, engine damage and loss of vehicle value. It could also force the automaker to extend warranties for vehicles that have yet to exhibit the issue. If you’ve experienced coolant leak issues in your 2019-2020 Mazda CX-5, 2016-2020 Mazda CX-9 or 2018-2020 Mazda6, you can learn more about the issue here. | New Data Breach Investigations | | Got a data breach notice? | ~ In Other News ~ Much like our page on video privacy violations, we’ve launched a dedicated page for travel sites suspected of possibly violating wiretapping laws. So far, you’ll find three investigations on the page involving Hopper.com, Agoda.com and certain Margaritaville websites over concerns that the sites may be using tracking tools to record and share users’ reservation details with Facebook. As new investigations open, we will post the information to this page. For now, you can learn about your rights if you used the Hopper, Agoda or Margaritaville websites within the past two years and have a Facebook account. There are no guarantees, but certain state privacy laws provide that consumers who had their rights violated could be owed anywhere from $100 to $5,000 each. | The Hershey Company is facing a proposed class action that claims it falsely marketed its Lily’s chocolate products as “Stevia Sweetened.” According to the case, the front labels of numerous Lily’s products – including chocolate bars, baking chips, baking bars, chocolate popcorn, dark chocolate almonds, chocolate caramels, chocolate peanuts, chocolate peanut butter cups and tasting squares – prominently claim that the items are sweetened with Stevia, a natural sugar alternative that’s regarded as healthier and higher value. In reality, however, the products are primarily sweetened with a cheaper, more processed sugar alternative known as erythritol, the suit says. Learn more about the allegations being made here. | ~ Forward to a friend ~
