Defective and Overcharged – Lawsuits May Help Get Money Back In the latest issue of our newsletter, we’ll explore some common themes affecting the things we buy and the services we use. First up, Audi is in the spotlight as attorneys look to determine whether a defect in certain Q5 models can turn a simple spill in the backseat into a serious – and potentially life-threatening – problem. Oasis Energy is also under investigation for potentially overcharging customers who switched over from public utilities in the hopes of big savings, and our third investigation looks into the dangers of unwashed poppy seed tea. Plus, Chick-fil-A is the latest company to be sued for allegedly charging hidden fees on delivery orders. And, as always, below you’ll find the latest class action settlements you may be able to claim. Keep reading for more. - Ty Armstrong, Writer/Community Manager | If your Audi Q5 unexpectedly shut down or you experienced electrical problems after something as simple as a spilled drink in the backseat, your gateway control module may be to blame. This component, which controls and facilitates communications between different modules in the car, was initially located behind the dashboard, but was reportedly moved to underneath the backseat for the 2018-2021 models. Unfortunately, attorneys suspect the module wasn’t given any additional protection aside from the springs and foam of the seat to keep it from getting wet – which is why even a small spill can cause such a problem. Attorneys believe this to be a serious safety concern, as some consumers have reported that their vehicles lost functionality while driving – including on highway roads – after the module got wet. They are investigating whether Audi knows or should have known about the problem and whether lawsuits can be filed. A number of lawsuits are being filed against independent energy companies claiming they’ve been ripping off customers who switched from public utilities. Now, attorneys working with ClassAction.org are investigating whether Oasis Energy, a subsidiary of Verde Energy, engaged in similar practices. Specifically, they’re looking into whether Oasis enticed people with false promises of electric and gas savings – but then charged them, in some cases, twice as much as public utilities. To help with their investigation, the attorneys need to hear from Oasis Energy customers to learn more about how they’re being charged. If your energy bill was unexpectedly higher after switching to Oasis Energy, share your story with us here – and you may be able to help get a lawsuit started. | Our settlements page is always being updated. | ~ In Other News ~ Worldwide reports have brought to light the dangers of unwashed poppy seeds, which can have lethal effects when ingested. Now, lawsuits are being filed alleging certain companies are continuing to market and sell unwashed poppy seeds without so much as a warning as to their harmful effects. Some sellers have even been accused of providing the public with “recipes” on how to steep the seeds to make tea for a pain- or anxiety-relieving effect. Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are investigating to see if additional lawsuits can be filed, which could help individuals and their families recover money for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more. If you or a family member had a stroke after drinking tea made from unwashed poppy seeds, you may be able to take legal action. Read up on the situation as it stands and share your story with us here. | We’ve learned more about the ins and outs of food delivery amid the pandemic and subsequent stay-at-home orders. Unfortunately, we’ve come to find out that some companies tend to charge more for delivery orders – but aren’t honest about how. Chick-fil-A is the latest to face a class action lawsuit claiming its “flat delivery fee” is misleading in that the cost of menu items is marked up by a noticeable 25% to 30% for delivery orders exclusively. The lawsuit contends that Chick-fil-A’s $2.99 or $3.99 flat fee allows the company to gain a competitive advantage over other chains who fairly represent their delivery fees and induces customers into making purchases they might not have made had they known the truth about the upcharges.
