The 45-page Young Consulting data breach lawsuit claims the company, which provides software solutions for the marketing, underwriting and administration of medical stop-loss insurance, “betrayed the trust” of consumers by failing to protect their sensitive information from unauthorized access.
According to the complaint, the Young Consulting data breach was discovered on April 13, when the company became aware of suspicious activity on its systems. A subsequent investigation found that cybercriminals had “infiltrated” Young Consulting’s network from April 10 through April 13, 2024, and potentially accessed and stole files containing the sensitive data of 954,177 people, the case says.
Information compromised in the Young Consulting cyberattack allegedly included, but is not limited to, names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and insurance details, including that belonging to Blue Shield of California customers, the filing shares.
“For the rest of their lives, Plaintiff and the Class Members will have to deal with the danger of identity thieves possessing and misusing their Private Information,” the suit emphasizes.
The case says the plaintiff, a Washington, D.C., resident, received a Young Consulting data breach notice on or around August 26, 2024. The lawsuit alleges Young Consulting failed to provide timely notice to data breach victims given that the hack was apparently discovered by the firm back in April.
“Defendant’s actions represent a flagrant disregard of the rights of Class Members, both as to privacy and property,” the proposed class action alleges.
The Young Consulting data breach class action looks to cover all individuals Young Consulting has identified as among those impacted by the data breach, including all who were sent a notice of the incident.
