Alltran Financial, LP is facing claims that it violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act by falsely threatening to add interest to a consumer’s alleged debt. According to the suit, the plaintiff received a collection letter on January 4, 2017 that stated her balance and noted that her account “continues to accrue interest.” The complaint claims, however, that two subsequent letters she received stated the same balance without any added interest. The case argues that the defendant’s statement in the original notice was false and unlawfully threatened the plaintiff with additional fees in an attempt to coerce her into paying off the alleged debt.
