California
JustFoodForDogs, LLC is facing a proposed class action filed by a California consumer who claims the defendant violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act (FACTA) by printing her credit card’s expiration date on her receipt. The plaintiff allegedly made a purchase at one of the company’s pet food stores and was given a receipt that included an unlawful amount of her personal information, subjecting her to an increased risk of identity theft. From the complaint:
“Despite having more than 12 years to become compliant with FACTA, Defendants have willfully violated this law and failed to protect Plaintiff and others similarly situated against identity theft and credit card and debit card fraud by intentionally printing of the credit and/or debit card expiration date on receipts.”
The suit, originally filed in the Superior Court of the State of California, has recently been removed to the District Court for the Central District of California.
