Block v. Wisconsin Hospitality Group Llc
Filed: March 26, 2019 ◆§ 2:19cv430
Wisconsin Hospitality Group—which runs Applebee’s locations across the state—has been sued over the alleged inaccessibility of its facilities.
Wisconsin
Wisconsin Hospitality Group—a restaurant franchisee that runs 36 Applebee’s Grill & Bar locations across the state—finds itself as the defendant in a proposed class action that alleges its facilities are not wheelchair-accessible.
The plaintiff in the suit, an Illinois resident who uses a wheelchair for mobility, allegedly visited the defendant’s Applebee’s in Kenosha, “where he experienced unnecessary difficulty and risk due to excessive slopes in a purportedly accessible parking area.” On the plaintiff’s behalf, investigators examined parking spaces, aisles and curb ramps at several of the defendant’s restaurants, the suit adds, and found that the company’s properties failed to adhere to accessibility standards set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The case argues that defendant’s allegedly widespread architectural barriers deny disabled consumers full and equal access to its facilities.
