A California man claims in a proposed class action that defendant AM Retail Group, Inc., which does business as retailer Wilsons Leather, effectively lies to consumers by purporting to offer deep discounts at its outlet stores. The lawsuit claims Wilsons Leather advertises fake sales by listing its merchandise at a “ticket” price, which is supposed to represent a product’s regular price, and a “sale” price serving as the consumer’s discount. From the lawsuit:
“The Wilsons Leather merchandise is never offered for sale, no sold at the ‘ticket’ price. The ticket price is used exclusively as a benchmark from which the false discount and corresponding ‘sale’ price is derived. Wilsons Leather scheme has the effect of tricking consumers into believing they are getting a significant deal by purchasing merchandise at a steep discount, when in reality, consumers are paying for merchandise at its regular retail price.”
