Florida
A Florida consumer has filed suit against Westport Recovery Corporation and an individual representing the debt collector over claims that the defendants violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. According to the complaint, the defendants, assigned to collect the plaintiff’s debt, began collecting interest before any amount was authorized by a court for collection. The suit argues that the debt collector sent the plaintiff “a communication which contained false representations” of the true amount of her debt and therefore violated the FDCPA.
