The VW door wiring harness settlement covers current and former owners and lessees of certain 2019-2023 model year Volkswagen Atlas and Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport vehicles imported and distributed by the automaker in the United States or Puerto Rico.
The official VW settlement website can be found at DoorWiringHarnessSettlement.com, and owners and lessees can determine whether their Volkswagen Atlas or Atlas Cross Sport is covered under the settlement by entering their car’s vehicle identification number (VIN) on this page.
To file a claim form for the VW door wiring harness settlement online, head to this page. You will need your car’s VIN and the unique ID and PIN found on the settlement notice you should have received. A downloadable PDF version of the claim form to submit by mail can be found here.
The deadline to submit a VW door wiring harness claim form online or by mail is December 24, 2024.
As part of the settlement, Volkswagen will extend its new vehicle limited warranty for all eligible class members to cover the cost of repair or replacement of a failed front door wiring harness that was modified or installed in a covered vehicle pursuant to recall 97GF, for a period of up to five years or 60,000 miles (whichever occurs first) from the date the recall repair was performed.
The website specifies that the settlement’s warranty extension applies to “all wiring harness-related repairs performed pursuant to the recall,” whether or not they involved replacing the wiring harness itself, and includes “any other necessary repair/adjustment” to remedy any warning lights or fault codes occurring due to the failure of the front door wiring harness. Class members do not need to submit a claim form to be eligible for the extended warranty.
The VW door wiring harness settlement will also provide drivers who submit a timely, valid claim form with 100 percent reimbursement of past parts-and-labor costs that were paid to repair or replace the failed part (and any diagnostic costs charged and paid for in connection with the repair) prior to October 10, 2024 and within seven years or 100,000 miles (whichever occurs first) from the vehicle’s in-service date.
For repairs performed between December 22, 2022 and October 10, 2024, a class member who files a reimbursement claim must submit a signed declaration, under penalty of perjury, establishing that they presented their covered vehicle to a Volkswagen dealer to have the recall 97GF repair performed prior to December 22, 2022, but the dealer was unable to do the repair because a replacement part was unavailable.
Documentation required with the submission of a VW wiring harness settlement claim form includes an original or legible copy of a repair invoice or record for a covered repair that contains a class member’s name, the make, model and VIN of their vehicle, and the name and address of the authorized VW dealer or non-dealer service center that performed the covered repair, among other details. Class members should also submit proof of their payment for the covered repair with their claim.
The initial Volkswagen class action lawsuit, filed in March 2022, alleged several vehicle models were equipped with defective door wiring harnesses that could cause “erratic vehicle behavior.” Specifically, the suit said the issue could cause an affected vehicle to apply the emergency brake, open and close all the windows on its own, or cause error messages and warning noises to occur.
