The class action settlement received preliminary approval from the court in July 2024, and the official website for the deal can be found at ULXSettlement.com.
According to the site, the settlement covers a class of 7,588 individuals who were mailed or emailed a notification that their personal information may have been impacted in the UnitedLex data breach.
To receive compensation from the settlement, class members must file a timely, valid claim form online or by mail by November 12, 2024.
Head to this page to submit a claim form online. If applicable, enter the claim ID and PIN found in the email or postcard settlement notice you may have received.
Class members may file a claim for up to $15,000 to cover out-of-pocket expenses fairly traceable to the UnitedLex data breach. Covered individuals can also file a claim to receive reimbursement for up to 20 hours of time they lost addressing issues related to the incident, at a rate of $25 per hour, or $500 per person.
Per the site, any money that remains after reimbursing class members for out-of-pocket expenses, lost time, and other settlement-related obligations will be distributed among claimants proportionally.
Finally, class members have until July 11, 2027 to enroll in free credit monitoring and identity restoration services.
The court will decide whether to grant final approval to the terms of the UnitedLex data breach settlement at a hearing set for December 10, 2024. Settlement payouts are typically issued to eligible class members after a deal is approved and any appeals are resolved.
The initial lawsuit against UnitedLex claimed the Kansas-based legal data management company failed to implement and maintain reasonable safeguards to protect sensitive data from unauthorized access. As part of the settlement, UnitedLex has agreed to enhance its cybersecurity practices.
