Sims et al v. United Collection Bureau, Inc.
Filed: May 2, 2017 ◆§ 2:17-cv-02639
Two separate lawsuits have been filed against United Collection Bureau, Inc. that claim the defendant neglected to clearly communicate in collection letters.
Two separate lawsuits have been filed against United Collection Bureau, Inc. that claim the defendant neglected to clearly state in collection letters the full amount of consumers’ alleged debts. More specifically, the letters supposedly contained a “current account balance” but failed to indicate whether the balance would increase due to interest or late fees. The lawsuits allege that the plaintiffs’ accounts were, in fact, accruing interest, and that the account balances could not be considered “current.” As a result, the suits argue that the letters would be misleading to the unsophisticated consumer and that the recipients were unable to determine the true amount of their alleged debts.
