Alliance Collection Agencies, Inc. is facing three consumers’ proposed class action lawsuit that claims the debt collector violated several provisions of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
The first plaintiff says she received two collection letters from the defendant that both indicated she had 30 days to dispute the debt or request validation. She claims she was unsure as to whether the validation period began upon receipt of the first or the second letter.
The other two plaintiffs say they each received a collection letter from Alliance that specified the total balance of their accounts. After that, the suit argues, they each received another notice that included the previous account numbers and also listed a charge from an additional account, causing the balance to increase. The plaintiffs claim they were confused as to how much they allegedly owed, and one plaintiff further argues that the defendant failed to specify when her 30-day validation period began.
