The TJ Maxx Companies, Inc. is the defendant in a proposed class action filed by a blind man who claims the company’s website is in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) due to numerous accessibility barriers that pose problems for blind and visually impaired consumers. The lawsuit, filed in New York district court, alleges that accessibility obstacles on TJMaxx.com “make it impossible for blind users to even complete a transaction on the website.” The plaintiff claims that visually impaired folks are excluded from full and equal participation in the Internet economy due to the defendant’s alleged barriers that prevent disabled users from utilizing assistive software.
