Sterling Jewelers Facing Class Action in CA Over Recorded Phone Calls

Madrid v. Sterling Jewelers, Inc.
Filed: August 24, 2017 ◆§ 3:17-cv-01711-CAB-BGS
Sterling Jewelers unlawfully recorded calls with consumers in California without prior consent, a proposed class action lawsuit alleges.
Sterling Jewelers, Inc., still trudging through a years-old employee arbitration claim over alleged widespread sexual harassment and misconduct, is facing a new proposed class action that claims the company violated California law by recording phone calls with consumers without first obtaining consent to do so. Citing possible violations of the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA), the plaintiff claims Sterling called her cell phone in April 2017 and did not, at any point, advise her that the conversation was being recorded.
The case covers a proposed class of consumers in California whose cell phone conversations with Sterling Jewelers were recorded without consent within the last year.
