The 55-page lawsuit says that on March 6 of this year, the cleaning company detected “suspicious activity” on certain computer systems. A subsequent investigation concluded that an unauthorized third party had gained access to certain files stored on its network between February 10 and March 6, 2023, the suit relays.
According to the case, the cyberattack compromised customers’ private information, including names, Social Security numbers, financial account details and driver’s license numbers.
The complaint charges that the data breach stemmed from the company’s failure to implement adequate cybersecurity protocols to safeguard consumer information, which was allegedly maintained unencrypted and unredacted in its network.

Moreover, the notice letter Stanley Steemer sent to victims lacked crucial facts, the filing claims. In the letter, the company failed to explain how cybercriminals gained access to the servers and what steps are being taken to safeguard stored data in the future, the lawsuit says.
“Without these details, [the plaintiff's] and Class Members’ ability to mitigate the harms resulting from the Data Breach is severely diminished,” the suit argues.
Though Stanley Steemer has purportedly offered 24 months of identity monitoring services, the filing contends that this gesture is “wholly inadequate” to compensate impacted individuals, who now face lifelong risks of identity theft and fraud as a result of the defendant’s alleged negligence.
The lawsuit looks to represent anyone in the United States whose private information was impacted and/or acquired by an unauthorized party as a result of the data breach reported by Stanley Steemer on or about November 15, 2023.
