Filed: May 5, 2017 ◆§ 2:17-cv-02726-JS-AYS
A proposed class action alleging violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) has been filed in New York against Reliant Capital Solutions, LLC.
New York
A proposed class action alleging violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) has been filed in New York against Reliant Capital Solutions, LLC. The consumer behind the yet-uncertified lawsuit claims the defendant sent a collection notice regarding an obligation owed to Nassau Community College in which it unlawfully added $75.90 in “collection costs” to the original $455.40 balance owed.
The lawsuit argues the defendant is not legally nor contractually allowed to add “collection costs” and violated the FDCPA in falsely identifying the amount due, as well as failing to respond to the plaintiff after he sent a letter disputing the debt.
