Pret A Manger (USA) Limited, which operates sandwich shops in New York, is facing a proposed class action lawsuit claiming its website discriminates against blind users. The plaintiff in the case, a blind New York resident, says he attempted to access the website but was hindered from fully navigating its content using his screen-reading software due to the site’s lack of alternative text and empty/redundant links. As a result, the suit says he was unlawfully denied equal access to the site’s goods and services, which include information about store locations and hours, access to menu options, and the ability to buy gift cards or order food for catering. The complaint cites alleged violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act and New York civil rights laws and demands that the defendant modify its website.
