A proposed class action filed against the operators of the Poconos Mountains’ Split Rock Resort alleges that the companies left customers vulnerable to identity theft by printing too many credit and debit card digits on sales receipts.
According to the case, the defendants allegedly printed receipts that included the first six and last four digits of customers’ card numbers, in violation of the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA), which prohibits businesses from printing more than the last five digits of payment card numbers on receipts. The lawsuit argues the defendants’ customers have been inconvenienced in that they must take additional steps to protect their private information, such as holding on to their receipts to properly shred and dispose of them.
