Planned Parenthood South Atlantic v. Edwards et al
Filed: July 27, 2018 ◆§ 2:18cv2078
South Carolina DHHS director Joshua Baker has been sued over the agency's decision to terminate Planned Parenthood South Atlantic’s status as a qualified Medicaid provider.
Planned Parenthood South Atlantic and an individual plaintiff have filed a proposed class action against South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Director Joshua Baker in his official capacity. The lawsuit stems from the agency’s and South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster’s allegedly “unlawful and politically motivated” decision to terminate Planned Parenthood South Atlantic’s status as a qualified Medicaid provider, a move the complaint alleges was made “solely on the basis that PPSAT provides safe, legal abortion outside the Medicaid program.”
