A class action has been filed in California against Outerwall, Inc. claiming the company's automated 'Coinstar' coin-counting kiosk systems don't comply with the ADA.
A class action has been filed in California against Outerwall, Inc. claiming the company’s automated “Coinstar” coin-counting kiosk systems are not in compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) as it pertains to legally blind individuals. The complaint describes the Coinstar coin-counting systems as self-service machines through which users, with no human interaction, can cash in coins in exchange for cash or stored value products through a touch-screen interface.
The plaintiff, who is legally blind, claims the defendant’s Coinstar kiosks prevent visually-impaired individuals from independently using them. “The kiosks make use of an exclusively visual interface that requires users to identify and interact with command icons on the screen, without any adaptive features to accommodate visually-impaired individuals,” the lawsuit alleges.
