Northstar Location Services, LLC is facing a proposed class action lawsuit in which a consumer claims it imposed a false deadline on a debt settlement offer in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
New York
Northstar Location Services, LLC is facing a proposed class action lawsuit in which a consumer claims it imposed a false deadline on a debt settlement offer in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. According to the complaint, the plaintiff received a collection letter from the defendant informing him that in order to “take advantage” of the included settlement offer, he must send in his first payment before a specific date.
“Such false statements are materially false statements,” the complaint reads, “as they impart in the unsophisticated consumer, a false belief that he or she must hurry to take advantage of a limited time opportunity, when in reality, there is no such time limit.”
