Koulouris v. NorthStar Location Services, LLC
Filed: May 11, 2017 ◆§ 2:17-cv-02883
A NY woman has filed a lawsuit against Northstar Location Services, LLC, claiming that its unlawful practices left her unable to determine how much she allegedly owed.
New York
A New York woman has filed a proposed class action lawsuit against Northstar Location Services, LLC, claiming that the debt collector’s unlawful practices left her unable to determine the amount of her alleged debt. Northstar supposedly sent her a letter that contained a “balance,” but failed to indicate whether the balance would increase due to interest and extra fees or whether it would remain static. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act requires that debt collectors not only disclose the amount of consumers’ alleged debts, but do so clearly, the complaint notes. Northstar’s failure to specify how the balance might change renders the letter illegal under the FDCPA, according to the suit.
