North American Power and Gas, LLC is the defendant in a class action claiming the utilities company unlawfully entices customers to sign up for its services with low initial “teaser” rates only to roll them over into a month-to-month plan that charges exorbitant rates regardless of fluctuations in energy market prices.
Filed in Connecticut, the lawsuit claims the defendant routinely charges consumers extraordinarily high premiums that do not line up with energy market price fluctuations – prices that are regularly as much as five to six times higher than current market rates. The plaintiff claims the defendant’s rates increase to match underlying market prices, but do not reduce when market prices go down.
