New Jersey
New Jersey law firm Lyons, Doughty & Veldhuis, P.C., is the defendant in a proposed class action filed over alleged violations of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). The lawsuit claims the defendant sent the plaintiff a collection notice that impermissibly included amounts for interest, fees and other unauthorized charges that were not yet due. Additionally, the plaintiff alleges the defendant’s notice did not provide her with accurate information, a violation of the FDCPA, and was designed to “cause [the plaintiff] to suffer a harmful disadvantage in charting a course of action” in response to the collection letter.
