Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and four retailers are being sued once again over Samsung's infamous 'exploding' washing machines, this time in South Carolina.
Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and four retailers are being sued once again over Samsung’s infamous “exploding” washing machines, this time in South Carolina. In November 2016, Samsung issued a recall of 34 washing machine models that were known to suffer “catastrophic failure” during normal use due to an inherent defect, the suit claims. The plaintiffs argue that the three options offered to customers in the recall do not apply to them because the “retrofit” Samsung provides does not actually fit the washing machines and allow them to be used normally, the rebate covers “a fraction of the cost” to replace the recalled machines, and the full refund only applies to people who purchased their machines during the 30 days before the recall announcement. The suit argues that Samsung’s recall options leave customers with unusable machines and offer no remedy to cover their losses.
