Yancy v. Client Services Inc et al
Filed: November 15, 2018 ◆§ 2:18cv16163
Client Services is facing a consumer's lawsuit in which she alleges the company sent her a deceptive collection letter regarding a debt owed to Chase Bank.
Client Services, Inc. is facing a New Jersey woman’s proposed class action in which she alleges the company sent her a deceptive collection letter regarding a debt owed to Chase Bank.
The November 2017 letter supposedly contained an offer to settle the woman’s outstanding balance of $2,049.29 for a reduced amount of $410 and stated, in part:
“If we settle this debt with you for less that the full outstanding balance, Chase may offer you less favorable terms in the future for some Chase products or services or may deny your application.”
The case argues the notice misled the plaintiff by falsely implying that her acceptance of a settlement offer “may reduce her likelihood of receiving future credit products from Chase Bank or reduce her overall creditworthiness.” In truth, the lawsuit says, future approval for credit products has to do solely with a consumer’s credit. In addition, the suit says the letter’s language overshadowed the recipient’s debt dispute rights by focusing more on full payment than any of the plaintiff’s other options.
