Nationwide Credit, Inc. has been named as the defendant in a proposed class action lawsuit filed by a man who claims the debt collector falsely implied he would receive benefits from paying off his debt or settling his account before a specific date.
The letter allegedly informed the plaintiff that if he failed to pay off the debt in full, his creditor might offer him “less favorable terms” for any future products or services he requested, which the suit argues falsely implies that he will be offered more favorable terms if he does pay the full balance.
Additionally, the suit takes issue with the defendant’s supposed settlement deadline, noting that if the plaintiff’s creditor has authorized the defendant to accept a settlement offer, that offer is available anytime.
