Archamdeau v. National General Holdings Corp.
Filed: November 15, 2016 ◆§ 2:16-cv-01766
A class action filed in Washington claims National General Insurance Company unlawfully denied coverage on a rural United States Postal Service (USPS) carrier's vehicle.
A class action filed in Washington claims National General Insurance Company unlawfully denied coverage on a rural United States Postal Service (USPS) carrier’s vehicle after explicitly advertising that its insurance would cover any vehicle damage incurred by USPS employees within the course of their duties.
The plaintiff claims she was involved in a minor accident while delivering mail. After filing a claim with the defendant, she received a letter stating National General Insurance’s policy “does not provide coverage while the insured is in the court of their employment with the United States of America or any of its agencies.” The plaintiff was informed of this, the lawsuit argues, despite the fact the defendant reportedly advertises specifically to rural USPS mail carriers who regularly deliver mail in their own vehicles.
The proposed class covers anyone to whom National General Insurance provided insurance coverage for vehicles used for rural United States Postal Service mail business who was denied insurance coverage when said vehicle was involved in an accident or otherwise damaged.
