The two operating companies of Morton's Restaurants are the defendants in a proposed class action lawsuit that claims the companies' website contains access barriers.

The two operating companies of Morton’s Restaurants are the defendants in a proposed class action lawsuit filed in New York federal court that claims the companies’ website – mortons.com – is inaccessible to the blind population. The plaintiff says he attempted to access Morton’s site using his screen reader, but could not complete a transaction due to various access barriers. From the complaint:
“These barriers are pervasive and include, but are not limited to: lack of alternative text on graphics, inaccessible checkboxes, the lack of adequate prompting and labeling; lack of navigation links; the denial of keyboard access; and the requirement that transactions be performed solely with a mouse.”
According to the suit, blind individuals are unable to take advantage of the products offered on the site – such as steaks, gift cards, and business gifts – and the services it offers. The plaintiff further claims he was unable to find the location of Morton’s stores on the site, which prevented him from visiting the physical locations.
