Mercantile Adjustment Bureau has been hit with a lawsuit in Wisconsin alleging that a letter it sent to an alleged debtor was “deceptively designed.” According to the suit, the letter informed the plaintiff that she must respond within 30 days to dispute the validity of the debt or the office would assume the debt was valid. The plaintiff claims, however, that the date printed on the letter was cut off, making it “impossible to know when the letter was sent.” As a result, the suit alleges, the plaintiff did not know when the 30-day validation period started, in violation of her rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
