Allen Edmonds Corporation is taking heat in a proposed class action that alleges its website—Allenedmonds.com—contains many accessibility barriers that exclude blind people from independently navigating the site and conducting business transactions. The case claims the men’s fashion retailer, which has five physical stores throughout New York state, chose to utilize an exclusively digital interface on its site that, instead of making use of readily available assistive technologies, leaves blind and hard-of-sight users to rely on sighted companions to assist them.
The plaintiff claims he attempted to purchase a polo shirt off the defendant’s website in April 2017, but was unable to as a result of insurmountable accessibility barriers.
