The 15-page fraud lawsuit was filed by a Michigan resident who says he ordered eight pairs of Lowe’s safety gloves after seeing that the products were specifically marketed online as made in the United States. However, when the consumer received the gloves, the product labeling showed they were, in fact, made in China and India, the suit charges.
The case claims that industrial safety standards in China and India are less strict than those in the United States and that most consumers, therefore, believe U.S.-made safety gloves are of a higher quality.
Lowe’s is aware that safety gloves made in the United States sell at a higher price than those manufactured in China or India, the complaint asserts. As a result of the alleged misrepresentation, the company has unjustly profited at the expense of consumers, the filing contends.
The Lowe’s false advertising lawsuit looks to represent anyone who, within the past six years, purchased safety gloves from the retailer that were represented as made in the United States and received gloves that were not manufactured domestically.
