Three California consumers claim in a proposed class action complaint that LG Electronics’ G4 and V10 model smart phones are affected by an alleged defect that causes them to crash and reboot interminably. The supposed “bootloop defect,” the case alleges, renders affected smartphones inoperable.
The G4 and V10 smartphones have been the subject of many consumers’ warranty claims and complaints since their release in April 2016. After publicly acknowledging the defect in January 2016, defendants LG Electronics U.S.A., Inc. and LG Electronics MobileComm U.S.A., Inc. took no steps to address the issues and did not issue a recall or set up any other recourse for consumers, the suit claims.
“LG instead replaced LG G4s that failed within the one-year warranty period with phones that had the same defect,” the lawsuit contends. “And LG refused to provide any remedy to purchasers of LG G4s that failed outside the warranty period because of the bootloop defect.”
