Filed: October 17, 2017 ◆§ 1:17-cv-07984

New York
A blind woman has filed suit against Tavern in the Square Holding Company LLC over claims that the company’s website is unlawfully inaccessible to visually impaired individuals. The plaintiff says she attempted to access the site – taverninthesquare.com – to find information about the defendant’s Tavern in the Square restaurant locations and purchase a gift card, but was met with various obstacles that inhibited her from completing a transaction. Specifically, the complaint claims the site lacks alternative text on graphics, contains inaccessible forms, and lacks proper labeling, causing it to be incompatible with the screen-reading technology used by blind individuals to interpret site content. The suit argues that the defendant has ignored “well-established guidelines” that other companies have been using “for several years” to design equally accessible websites and comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
