Lawsuit: Sarma Collections Omitted Date from Collection Letter

A New York man has filed suit against Sarma Collections, Inc. claiming the defendant failed to include a date on the collection letter it sent him, thereby leaving him unsure as to when the validation period expired during which he could dispute the alleged debt. According to the complaint, debt collection letters must be marked with the date on which they were sent because the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act allows consumers to dispute the purported debts or request validation up to 30 days after they receive collection letters. The suit argues that the defendant's letter would leave the plaintiff unable to determine how much time was left before the debt collector would assume his debt was valid.
