Lawsuit: L’Oreal, Soft-Sheen Carson’s Five-Step Hair Relaxer Kit Causes Hair Loss, Scalp Irritation
Last Updated on May 8, 2018
Smith v. L’Oreal USA, Inc. et al.
Filed: September 27, 2017 ◆§ 7:17-cv-01661-TMP
A lawsuit claims the Sheen-Carson Optimum Salon Haircare brand Amla Legend Rejuvenating Ritual Relaxer Kit can cause painful scalp and hair damage.
L’Oreal USA, Inc. and Soft Sheen-Carson, LLC are the defendants in a proposed class action that claims the companies’ Sheen-Carson Optimum Salon Haircare brand Amla Legend Rejuvenating Ritual Relaxer Kit can cause significant hair loss and skin and scalp irritation.
Marketed specifically to African American women, the hair relaxer kit is purported by the defendants as a “five-step ritual” that can yield thicker-looking, healthier hair. The plaintiff in the case, an Alabama woman, alleges the defendants, at no time, provided any disclosure about the potential hazards of using the product, or that it allegedly contains sodium hydroxide, known as lye. The case says that, to date, the defendants have not recalled their allegedly dangerous product, nor warned consumers about its supposed risks.
