People’s United Bank is feeling the heat from a proposed class action filed in Connecticut that claims it unlawfully charges overdraft fees on transactions even when customers have enough money in their checking accounts to cover said transactions. Moreover, the 27-page lawsuit alleges People’s United Bank effectively lies to customers—in violation of federal law—by failing to accurately describe its overdraft service in its opt-in contracts, specifically in regard to the actual method by which it calculates its overdraft fees.
