Silveira et al. v. CoreCivic et al.
Filed: January 29, 2018 ◆§ 2:18cv188
A group of inmates on Kosher diets have filed suit against CoreCivic, Trinity Service Group Inc., and a group of individuals employed at La Palma Correctional Center in Eloy, Arizona over claims that the parties underfed them.
A group of inmates on Kosher diets have filed suit against CoreCivic, Trinity Service Group Inc., and a group of individuals employed in positions of authority at La Palma Correctional Center in Eloy, Arizona over claims that the parties underfed them and discriminated against Kosher diet participants. The plaintiffs allege in the handwritten complaint that the defendants provided them with smaller portions or, at times, did not provide them any food at all that met their religious dietary restrictions. On top of that, the complaint attests, Kosher diet participants were denied the same kind of variety in meals as “all other diets” and did not receive the same nutrients available to others.
The suit argues that despite the plaintiffs’ and their family members’ “repeated verbal, formal and administrative attempts” to complain to the defendants regarding the alleged issue, their requests “were merely met by lip service.” The plaintiffs further claim that they were threatened with disciplinary action for reporting the defendants’ alleged actions.
The judge presiding over this case has instructed each of the five plaintiffs to file separate lawsuits, as listed below:
- Silveira v. Core Civic et al., Case No. 2:18cv294
- Bonhomme v. Core Civic et al., Case No. 2:18cv297

- Murillo v. Core Civic et al., Case No. 2:18cv300
