Anderson v. Central Amusement International LLC
Filed: September 19, 2017 ◆§ 1:17-cv-05493
Central Amusement International LLC is facing claims that it discriminates against the blind population by failing to provide them equal access to its website.
New York
Central Amusement International LLC is facing claims that it discriminates against the blind population by failing to provide them equal access to its website, www.Victoriangardensnyc.com. The plaintiff in the case, a blind New York man, says he unsuccessfully attempted to access the defendant’s website to buy tickets to Victorian Gardens in New York City’s Central Park.
The website, the case says, provides users with park information; its location and hours of operation; a photo gallery; details about park rides and attractions; event and group rate information; employment opportunities; and the ability to purchase tickets. The plaintiff claims he was unable to use his screen reader to complete a transaction on the website due to various access barriers, such as a lack of alternative text, inaccessible forms, a lack of navigation links, and the requirement that transactions be performed with a mouse instead of a keyboard. He further alleges that he is unable to visit the park’s physical location to buy tickets because he cannot find this information on the website.
