Young v. Serafina Management Group, Ltd.
Filed: October 6, 2017 ◆§ 1:17-cv-07695
A proposed class action has been filed against Serafina Management Group, Ltd. over claims that the defendant discriminates against visually impaired internet users by failing to make its website fully accessible.
New York
A proposed class action has been filed against Serafina Management Group, Ltd. over claims that the defendant discriminates against visually impaired internet users by failing to make its website fully accessible. The Italian restaurant chain allegedly operates www.serafinarestaurant.com, which offers the public information about restaurant locations, hours of operation, and menu options and allows users to order food for delivery or pick-up. The plaintiff, a blind New York resident, claims he attempted to visit the website using his screen-reading technology but was unable to access all the content because it was not fully capable of being rendered into text. He further argues that he was unable to visit the defendant’s physical restaurants because information about their locations was not accessible to him.
“These access barriers that [the plaintiff] encountered have caused a denial of his full and equal access multiple times in the past,” the complaint reads, “and now deter him on a regular basis from visiting Serafina’s brick-and-mortar restaurants.”
