Asset Acceptance, LLC is the defendant in a proposed class action lawsuit filed by a Michigan resident who claims the debt collector unlawfully identified her as a “judgment debtor” on an envelope. According to the complaint, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Michigan state law prohibit debt collectors from including any information on envelopes sent to consumers that would identify the communication as an attempt to collect a debt. The plaintiff says the envelope included a transparent window displaying her name, followed by “judgment debtor,” which the suit argues invaded her privacy and violated federal and state law.
