Wu v. Jensen-Lewis Co. Inc. et al.
Filed: August 28, 2017 ◆§ 1:17-cv-06534
Furniture store operators Jensen-Lewis Co. Inc. and Jensen-Lewis East, Inc. are facing a proposed class action lawsuit alleging their website contains access barriers that hinder blind individuals from freely navigating the site.
New York
Furniture store operators Jensen-Lewis Co. Inc. and Jensen-Lewis East, Inc. are facing a proposed class action lawsuit alleging their website, www.jensen-lewis.com, contains access barriers that hinder blind individuals from being able to enjoy the goods and services it offers. The plaintiff says she attempted to navigate the site using screen-reading technology but was unable to find information regarding store locations, hours, in-store services, deals and promotions, return policies, and shipping. The complaint claims the site lacks alternative text that translates images into words screen readers can interpret. It further argues that the site’s empty and redundant links cause unnecessary repetition and make it more difficult to navigate.
“The access barriers [the plaintiff] encountered have caused a denial of [her] full and equal access in the past,” the suit reads, “and now deter [the plaintiff] on a regular basis from accessing the Website.” Further, she says she is unable to visit the physical store locations because she cannot find the addresses and hours on the site.
