Cline v. Inline Network Integration LLC
Filed: August 8, 2022 ◆§ 3:22-cv-01711
Inline Network Integration has been hit with a class action lawsuit after sending notice to consumers that it was the target of a data breach in March 2022.
Inline Network Integration LLC has been hit with a proposed class action lawsuit after sending notice to consumers that it was the target of a data breach in March 2022.
The 36-page lawsuit alleges the defendant, who the suit says “[i]ronically” provides data protection services to businesses, failed to properly safeguard its own systems from unauthorized access. According to the case, Inline maintained consumers’ private information “in a reckless manner” that left the apparently unencrypted data “vulnerable to a cyberattack.”
Per the suit, consumers whose information was compromised in the “foreseeable” incident now face a “heightened and imminent risk” of identity theft and fraud.
The plaintiff, a Mississippi resident, says he received a letter from the defendant around July 19, 2022 that informed him of a “recent data security event” that may have involved his information. According to the complaint, the plaintiff had never heard of Inline before receiving the letter and likely entrusted his private information to one of the company’s customers.
Per the suit, the data breach notice informed the plaintiff that on March 12, 2022, more than four months earlier, Inline had become aware of “unusual activity within its digital environment” and, after an investigation, determined that some of its customers’ data may have been exposed to unauthorized access.
The lawsuit says that Inline “[i]nexplicably” took four months to inform data breach victims that their personal information had been compromised and has yet to reveal what information was exposed or why the company had access to consumers’ private information.
“Because Defendant failed to inform Plaintiff as to the scope of the Data Breach, Plaintiff is left to guess what information was compromised and how he should go about mitigating his risk of identity theft,” the complaint states.
Moreover, the lawsuit claims that Inline has so far “done nothing” to provide relief to data breach victims, other than offering “some months” of fraud and identity monitoring services. The case points out that consumers must spend time to sign up for these services and have not been informed how long they will last.
The lawsuit looks to represent anyone whose private information was compromised as a result of the data breach for which Inline Network Integration provided notice in July 2022.
