Dennis v. Idt Corporation et al
Filed: May 21, 2018 ◆§ 1:18cv2302
IDT Corporation and IDT Telecom, Inc. are on the receiving end of a proposed class action accusing the parties of violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by placing automated telemarketing calls to consumers’ telephones without their consent.
Georgia
IDT Corporation and IDT Telecom, Inc. are on the receiving end of a proposed class action accusing the parties of violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) by placing automated telemarketing calls to consumers’ telephones without their consent. The plaintiff in the case claims he received at least 50 calls regarding the defendants’ international prepaid calling services despite never agreeing to receive the calls or entering into any prior business relationship with the companies. According to the complaint, the man repeatedly told the defendants to stop calling him but was ignored, causing him “extreme aggravation.” Further, the case points out that the plaintiff’s telephone number had been listed on the National Do Not Call Registry and suggests that the defendants’ decision to place the allegedly unsolicited calls was willful. From the complaint:
“Defendants knowingly made these telemarketing calls without the prior express written consent of the call recipients, and knowingly continue to call them after requests to stop. As such, Defendants not only invaded the personal privacy of Plaintiff and members of the putative Class, but also intentionally and repeatedly violated the TCPA.”
