A Missouri woman has filed a class action against American Honda Motor Co., Inc. over an alleged defect in her 2015 CR-V model vehicle. The defect, the lawsuit claims, manifests in the form of a vibration problem that was unable to be fixed after numerous repair attempts.
The lawsuit argues the vibration problem stems from the CR-Vs’ reportedly fuel-efficient “Earth Dreams” engine. This four-cylinder engine, formerly found in Honda Accord models, achieves its best-in-class fuel economy rating by maintaining maximum horsepower and torque while the engine runs at lower revolutions per minute (RPMs). According to the suit, however, running a vehicle’s engine at low RPMs while idling can cause problems that manifest in the form of noises or vibrations.
The CR-V vibration problems stem from, in part, the light weight of the Dream Engine and the piston set up within the block, the suit says. To combat this issue, the case notes, vehicles with such engines can utilize special hydraulic engine mounts, with which the 2015 CR-V is not equipped.
