HeadClicks’ Himalayan Crystal Salt Lamps Are Useless, Class Action Lawsuit Claims

Okoe v. HeadClicks, Inc.
Filed: November 21, 2018 ◆§ 1:18-cv-10911
HeadClicks, Inc.'s Himalayan salt lamps are the focus of a proposed class action that alleges the products do not offer any of their advertised benefits.
A proposed class action lawsuit out of New York alleges Himalayan crystal salt lamps manufactured by HeadClicks, Inc. simply do not offer any of the capabilities advertised by the company.
According to the 30-page suit, HeadClicks claims its salt lamps can trap positive ions and release negative ones; cleanse and deodorize the air; capture dust, pollen and other air contaminants; ease coughing; alleviate allergies and asthma symptoms; neutralize the effects of electromagnetic radiation; and promote better sleep, mood and concentration. As the lawsuit tells it, however, these purported benefits were meant only to lure consumers into spending a “significant sum” on products that do not deliver.
The case looks to represent consumers who purchased any of the following Amethya-brand salt lamps:
- Amethya Natural Himalayan Salt Lamp Hand Carved (Set of 2);
- Himalayan Crystal Salt Mini Lamp;
- Natural Himalayan Salt Lamp Hand Carved with Elegant Wood Base;
- Amethya Himalayan Salt Lamp Fire Bowl; and
- Himalayan Metal Basket Bowl Salt Lamp.
The case charges that HeadClicks knew its claims with regard to the so-called benefits of its salt lamps were false and misleading yet relayed such to consumers anyway.
“Obviously, a piece of salt that can purify air and benefit respiration will have more appeal than an ordinary piece of salt,” the complaint reads.
