System recovery software company LC Technology International has filed a proposed class action in which it claims defendants Harvard Risk Management Corporation and Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc., doing business as LegalShield, have sent unlawful, unsolicited fax messages as part of a “pyramid sales scheme.”
The lawsuit describes LegalShield as a multi-level marketing scheme for which co-defendant Harvard Risk Management exists “only to sell LegalShield products.” According to the complaint, the defendants’ faxes describe the supposed features and benefits of LegalShield- and IDShield-branded legal service and identity theft protection products. The companies have sent the faxes to proposed class members without the existence of any prior relationship or consent to do so, the lawsuit alleges.
