Filed: February 9, 2018 ◆§ 1:18cv623
Essex Technology Group, LLC is facing a proposed class action that alleges the company prints more than five digits of consumers’ credit and debit card numbers on receipts at its Bargain Hunt stores.
Georgia
Essex Technology Group, LLC is on the receiving end of a proposed class action lawsuit that alleges the company violated the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act by printing more than five digits of consumers’ credit and debit card numbers on receipts at its Bargain Hunt stores. The plaintiff in the case claims the first six and last four digits of his card were visible on his Bargain Hunt receipt, exposing him to an increased risk of identity theft. The suit argues that under FACTA, businesses were given three years – until December 4, 2006 – to comply with the new law’s requirements and truncate card numbers, but the defendant allegedly failed to do so.
