Georgia Consumer Claims She Was ‘Bombard[ed]’ With Angi Promotional Texts
Anderson v. Angie's List, Inc.
Filed: October 31, 2022 ◆§ 1:22-cv-04344-AT
A class action claims that Angi has unlawfully sent telemarketing text messages to consumers' cell phones without obtaining consent, and even after being asked to stop.
A proposed class action claims that Angi (formerly Angie’s List) has unlawfully sent automated telemarketing text messages to consumers’ cell phones without obtaining consent, even after they’ve requested to opt-out of the campaign.
The 11-page case alleges that over the past several months, Angi, a professional business directory and review portal, has been “bombarding” a Georgia resident’s cell phone with unsolicited text messages advertising the company’s promotions. The filing contends that the plaintiff never provided Angi with express written consent to be contacted.

Per the complaint, on August 24, 2022, the plaintiff attempted to put an end to the text messages by responding to Angi with the word “[s]top,” but the company continued to send her text messages on August 31 and September 7.
According to the suit, Angi has run afoul of the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) by failing to honor consumers’ internal do-not-call requests. The case also alleges that Angi, in further violation of the TPCA, does not have a written policy for maintaining a list of consumers who have asked not to be contacted, nor does it train its employees to use such a list.
Angi’s alleged misconduct has resulted in “the invasion of privacy, harassment, aggravation, and disruption of the daily life of thousands of individuals,” the suit argues.
The lawsuit looks to represent anyone in the United States who, within the past four years, was sent a text message from Angi, or anyone on its behalf, after making a request not to receive future text messages.
