Genpact Services LLC is on the receiving end of a proposed class action lawsuit that claims it made unlawful threats in debt collection letters sent to consumers. According to the complaint, the defendant sent the plaintiff a letter informing her, in part, that any debt forgiveness “of $600 or more” may be required to be reported to the IRS. By including these statements in the letter, the defendant attempted “to intimidate” the plaintiff into paying off the full amount of the debt, the lawsuit says. According to the complaint, the letter was misleading because it failed to provide information specific to the plaintiff and could be interpreted to have multiple meanings.
